Children With Birth Defects At Increased Risk for Cancer

The Cancer Predisposition Program at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, led by Dr. Todd Druley, has published a systematic review finding that pediatric cancer risk increases in association with birth defects. Notably, there is a strong, consistent association with CNS abnormalities and the incidence of CNS cancers. With novel high-throughput technologies, we may be able to find the genetic overlap between development and malignancy which will allow for identification of high risk populations among children with congenital abnormalities.
